Blumlein-Haas
In the 1930′s, Alan Blumlein, the father of stereo audio, created a panning concept that was forgotten. Unearthed in the late 80s by Michael Gerzon, he said:
“One of Blumlein’s many discoveries’ was that increased width could yield stereo images beyond the left and right speakers. This useful discovery would permit one to pan sounds over a wider stage than normally used in today’s studio. There is no reason why panpots should not be designed to cover such an increased stage width – yet I am unaware of a single mixer in which this is actually done.”

…but there’s more to the story. This plugin also includes a variety of depth options, including a Haas delay algorithm, reverb and a frequency curve to simulate distance. This plugin can be used to precisely position an instrument in three dimensional space and quickly find the depth processing combination that works best for the source and the mix.
It also includes an instant implementation of the out-of-speakers technique. This feature is only to be used sparingly because it will make a track disappear when a stereo recording is heard in mono. However, it can make for some interesting stereo spice!
